UAV-Projects

We have been active in the UAV sector since 2020. With volaer.io, we have created a product that enables customers to use drones professionally for a wide range of applications. As research and industrial projects have always been a large part of our work and identity, we are also involved in a wide variety of projects in the UAV sector that deal with the topic of drones. Our current and future projects benefit from our wealth of experience, enabling us to offer and develop specific, customized solutions for each project.

AI-supported drone system for forest firefighting using fire development forecasts, enabling faster, data-based decision-making

The innovative project framework is based on combining and supplementing a wide variety of data sources with real-time aerial imagery to enable early detection and more accurate predictions of the emergence and spread of forest fires. The automated drone system (VTOL-UAS – vertical take-off and landing fixed-wing drones) is integrated into existing control center systems and ensures seamless communication with the responsible emergency services and situation centers. In addition to fire detection, the system will generate tactical situation pictures, optimize resource management, and enable dynamic and flexible deployment routes.

Thermographic flow state detection on rotor blades of offshore wind turbines during operation using an automated and disturbance-robust flight system
oecon-autoflow

The automated flight system is designed to increase the yield of wind turbines. For the first time, a multi-sensory flight system is being used that can perform both thermographic and laser-based measurements. In fact, the project goes one step further: the unmanned flight system will not only be remotely controllable, but will also perform measurements on nearby wind turbines in a fully automated manner. At the same time, the data will be transmitted and evaluated in real time in order to obtain a quick initial overview of the condition of the turbine on site. This will allow immediate decisions to be made as to which areas of the turbine require special inspection.

Air support for police and fire departments – creation of an intelligent, AI-supported drone control center

The aim of the EUFOS project was to enable the use of unmanned drones by fire departments, police, rescue services, and service companies.

A complete package was developed, consisting of drones with special sensors and appropriate control software, tailored for:

Police, fire departments, and rescue services
to reduce the time needed to initiate necessary rescue measures

Service companies
to increase the security of critical infrastructure, e.g., airports

Traffic monitoring
to increase safety and efficiency in road traffic

Funding body: The project is funded by the state of Lower Saxony through NBank and is part of the “Digitization in Transport” initiative.
